Sermon notes are the flagship feature of My Sermon Notes. Watch the tutorial above to learn how to create your first sermon note outline.
Adding a sermon note outline
To add a sermon, sign in to the admin portal at https://portal.mysermonnotes.com. Click "Sermons" on the top menu of the portal and click the "Add Sermon" button.
Title
This is the main title that users will see at the top of the note and in their list of notes.
Subtitle
The subtitle is a smaller italicized title that appears under the main title. This may include key bible verses or additional information.
Tags
Tags are a valuable way to help users find the sermon when they use the search function. We recommend adding phrases related to the subject of your sermon.
Date Given
This is the date on which your sermon will be given. The "date given" field controls when the sermon note template will be available for users to download in the app, so we recommend setting it to the date of your service.
Video URL
If you have a video URL to a live stream or recorded sermon, paste it in the Video URL box. When a URL is present, there will be an orange video icon in the top right corner of a sermon note outline. Users can refer back to the video of the sermon when reviewing past sermon notes.
Adding notes
A "note" is one key point in the sermon. You may add as many "notes" as you'd like to a sermon. A note does not need to have a fill-in-the-blank box, but you have the ability to create one.
Fill-in-the-blank notes
A note can be formatted to have fill-in-the-blanks by putting underscores for each character of the word. For example, if you wanted to have a blank for "world", you would instead put five underscores (i.e. for God so loved the _____). This will automatically convert to a fill-in-the-blank field on the app.
Formatting
To make text bold, italicized, or underlined, use the controls in the top right corner next to the "Add" button.
Additional notes box
To add an expandable blank note box for users to take additional notes, make sure the box is checked to the left of the trash can icon. This will create the expandable notes box in the app.
Organizing notes
Sermon note points may be organized by clicking and dragging the tab to the right of the note.
Editing Sermons
To edit a sermon, click the pencil icon next to the sermon name on the Sermons screen. Once you've made your edits, click "Save."
Deleting Sermons
To delete a sermon, click the pencil icon and click "Delete" to the left of the save button. Please note that the sermon will no longer be available to your congregation in the "New Sermons" screen on the app, but users who have already taken notes on this sermon will still have their notes.
